Customer Highlights
Since ASRM will be in Denver this year, this month we are happy to profile the Colorado State University (CSU) Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Lab (ARBL). The lab is currently using SAFE Sens to monitor pH in both cabinet and benchtop incubators under the direction of Lab Director Dr. Jennifer Barfield.
What Dr. Barfield has to say about SAFE Sens
“While it is early days working with SAFE Sens we have already garnered some interesting and beneficial information with respect to our culture system and incubators. We have never had access to this type of continuous pH data and are looking forward to obtaining more and more practical data.”
About The Program
Dr. Barfield has focused her efforts on bringing bison back to the shortgrass prairie of northern Colorado and to preserving the genetics of Yellowstone bison using assisted reproduction.
Jennifer spearheaded the introduction of bison to the Soapstone Prairie in northern Larimer County using bison offspring with Yellowstone genetics. Long term, the herd in Soapstone Prairie will be used to integrate bison into herds found on conservation, federal, and Native American lands.
About The Lab
Dr. Barfield and her team use state-of-the-art assisted reproductive technology to combat brucellosis, a bacterial infectious disease that infects the Yellowstone bison herd and can trigger abortions.
The lab applies advanced semen and embryo washing techniques on brucellosis-positive bison samples and then use semen for artificial insemination and embryos for transfer to brucellosis-free surrogate mothers.
SAFE Sens is excited and proud to support Dr. Barfield and her team with their excellent work in animal reproduction.
